In addition to actual tea, detox concoctions typically include additional herbs, which may be designed to curb appetite, rev metabolism, or boost weight loss in other ways. One example is senna, a plant with a natural laxative effect. According to the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, the potential side effects of senna use may include abdominal pain and discomfort, cramps, bloating, gas, nausea, and diarrhea; excessive use can lead to potassium depletion and other electrolyte abnormalities, which can trigger muscle spasms and an abnormal heart rhythm. Another popular ingredient in weight loss teas is guarana, a plant that's often added to energy drinks. Its side effects are commonly related to its caffeine content, which may include nervousness, restlessness, stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting, headache, anxiety, agitation, ringing in the ears, and fast heart and breathing rates. Bottom line: Do your homework about exactly what's in a product before you put it in your body. Even "all-natural" substances can have potential side effects, especially if they're overused, combined with other supplements or medications that result in negative interactions, or if taken by those with pre-existing medical conditions.
A few years back, the authors of Eat This, Not That! commissioned ChromaDex laboratories to analyze 14 different bottled green teas for their levels of disease-fighting catechins. While Honest Tea Honey Green Tea topped the charts with an impressive 215 milligrams of total catechins, some products weren’t even in the game. For instance, Republic of Tea Pomegranate Green Tea had only 8 milligrams, and Ito En Teas’ Tea Lemongrass Green had just 28 milligrams, despite implying on its label that the product is packed with antioxidants.
In fact, liquid calories now make up a whopping 21 percent of our daily calorie intake—more than 400 calories every single day, more than twice as much as we drank 30 years ago. To give you a perspective on those numbers, imagine taking two slices of Pizza Hut Thin ‘N Crispy Pepperoni Pizza, tossing them in a blender and hitting “puree,” then drinking the whole thing down. That’s 420 calories. Now imagine that the typical American has been doing this every single day for years.
When your cortisol levels are through the roof, it triggers the release of insulin, and this is where things go awry. Initially, the ‘fight-or-flight’ response shuts down your digestive system so you can deal with the “threat”, like a very hungry lion or, more realistically, heavy traffic on your way to work. Once the danger has passed, your body seeks to replenish the hundreds of calories you burned fighting to the death/swearing at rush hour traffic and makes you ravenously hungry.
Not all women are created equally — or at least as far as our bellies are concerned! Your belly type is dependent upon your musculoskeletal structure, genetics, lifestyle, diet and more. James Duigan, fitness expert and A-list celeb trainer, has narrowed down the belly types to five: spare tire, stress, pooch, mommy and bloated. Once you figure out which belly type you have, you can address the weight loss with focus and efficiency. All of the information below is based off of Duigan's research and recommendations.

Hibiscus tea, which is made from the magenta-coloured calyces of the Hibiscus sabdariffa flower, contains high antioxidant properties that may help boost your health in many ways. Several studies have shown that drinking hibiscus tea can help boost weight loss and prevent obesity. This herbal tea may also help lower blood pressure, improve liver health and protect against cancer.
Seltzer adds that in addition to reducing your calorie intake, you should make sure to have good methods of managing stress, which can be anything from getting enough sleep at night to doing meditation throughout the day. "We do know that if levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) are high, any excess energy you consume will be preferentially deposited around your middle," he says.
But before trashing all your food and buying anything that says “whole grain” on the label, be warned that not all products labeled as whole grain are created equal. Many products may contain whole grain, but the percentage is small and not enough to make a difference in your lower belly fat.  Long ingredient lists almost always contain a mix of chemical preservatives and additives, which may actually cause additional weight gain. Look for instead items that are 100% whole grain.
Great post! Thanks so much for sharing this. I really liked the cucumber and lemon recipe. I really think the simpler the better the taste! I bought an Infruition bottle as I wanted to carry mine around without it blocking the aperture of my water bottle and I’m doing this everyday now!! (Okay it’s been 6 days but I’m going strong!!) Thanks Vanessa!

I drink a fruit and cucumber. ..with lemon or lime everyday. ..im lost without it! I take frozen berry blend (1/4 cup) 3 slices of oranges. ..6 slkces of the fancy small cucumbers. …squeeze in my lemon. …..and I drink this all day…and I keep refilling it more…so I drink about 96 -100 oz a day…I have no added sugars…..or gluten in my day as well…in the morning im feeling the results from this detoxification drink…..everyone’s ALWAYS asking me whats in your bottle it looks yummy!
This one is a proactive wonder! The watermelon core assists the fundamental roles of both the liver and kidneys. This allows them to dispel critical poisons like ammonia. In a similar fashion, the lemons and limes play a formidable role in encouraging healthy intestinal bile interactions. Cucumbers bring nourishment to a new level, and their nutrients are excellent for procuring an aesthetic frame and complexion. Guys will definitely start to notice when a lady switches to this quenching recipe. By providing energy to a woman’s inner core, this drink truly activates alchemy in action. Just one cup a day equals massive sex appeal.
Not only does this delicious water not have any calories, it’s great for slimming down and ridding your body of harmful toxins. It also helps to boost your metabolism. You will need a gallon sized pitcher filled with spring water and you can refill the pitcher three or four times using the same apples and cinnamon sticks. You need a thinly sliced apple (whatever your favorite type) and a cinnamon stick. Just add those to your water and cover about ½ of the pitcher with ice before filling with water. It’s best if you let them sit in the fridge for an hour or so before serving. You can add additional apple slices or cinnamon if you prefer a stronger taste.
I tried this cleanse myself, and within 48 hours my waist was measurably smaller, and I felt lighter, more alert, and yet more calm. I shared it with my mother, and her 7-day journey brought her blood sugar under control, and her weight down by a shocking 9 pounds. And then she and I shared it with our friends, and the results were the same across the board. In just 48 to 72 hours, our friends reported noticeable changes in their body shapes, as though the tea were flattening their bellies from the inside.
You have surely heard of (or experienced for yourself) the wonderful benefits of aloe. Did you know that you can add it to your water? When you take aloe internally, it can help with circulation and digestion and increase your energy and eliminate fatigue. Making aloe infused detox water is easy. You need to split the leaf down the center and remove the gel. Mix the gel with some water and lemon in the blender and process for about a minute. You will need about a cup of water, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and about 2 tablespoons of aloe gel.
I have read that it is more beneficial to chop the whole lemon into chunks, or rather thin slices, and put those into water (don’t squeeze the lemon slices /chunks, just drop them in the water), and drink that in the morning……adding whatever else you would like. Leave the peel on the lemon (use organic) and just let them sit in the water overnight. There is goodness in the peel that is really detoxing, and you don’t get all the juice that will compromise the enamel on your teeth. It’s very good, and you can really taste the bitter peel….very good.
This master cleanse detox water recipe is designed to flush every bad toxin out of your body. You will need about twelve ounces of filtered water, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of organic maple syrup, 1/10 of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper and a dash of sea salt. Just mix the ingredients together and drink. There are also optional ingredients like green tea and laxatives that you can add but the detox water in itself is great for ridding your body of free radicals and leaving you feeling and looking much healthier.

Raspberries are low in calories too, and an excellent source of fibre and vitamins. Raspberry ketone is a substance naturally found in raspberries and other berries like cranberries, kiwis and blackberries. The raspberry ketones are known to break down fat within cells where fat is formed, thereby helping your body burn faster. It also increases the hormone adiponectin that helps to regulate metabolism [25] .
Also known as branch chain amino acids. BCAAs are three amino acids known as Leucine, Valine and Iso-Leucine. They help prevent muscle breakdown and can be bought as yummy flavoured powders to use in place as sports drinks. Drink them during your workout instead of water as they will help you tone up as you lose that belly and may even help in the formation of abdominal muscle.
Research published in the Journal of Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases concluded that following the Mediterranean diet could help to mitigate the harmful effects of belly fat on your heart. Better yet, it boosts the number of healthy bacteria in your gut – a study published in the journal Frontiers in Nutrition saw levels rise by up to seven per cent, compared with a western diet.
Do cardiovascular exercise on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Sweating is one of our body's methods of eliminating toxins. Besides being excellent for heart health, cardio training burns calories to help tighten that mid-section. Try 30 to 60 minutes of low-intensity cardio per day. Low-intensity burns more body fat, according to the "Muscle Nerd" Jeff Anderson. Remember that cardio is cumulative, so feel free to spread your exercise out over several smaller sessions throughout the day.
