As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, excess abdominal fat is a key predictor of heart disease, diabetes and several types of cancer. But you shouldn’t get rid of your belly fat just to protect your health; you should also do it because it makes you feel good as an individual. Restoring confidence in yourself is also a great way to ensure you stay healthy. Just remember, losing weight, especially in your belly is not an easy process, so do not get discouraged and stay motivated and you’ll achieve your goals.

Seltzer adds that in addition to reducing your calorie intake, you should make sure to have good methods of managing stress, which can be anything from getting enough sleep at night to doing meditation throughout the day. "We do know that if levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) are high, any excess energy you consume will be preferentially deposited around your middle," he says.
The good news is that visceral fat yields fairly easily to exercise and diet, with benefits ranging from lower blood pressure to more favorable cholesterol levels. Subcutaneous fat located at the waist — the pinchable stuff — can be frustratingly difficult to budge, but in normal-weight people, it's generally not considered as much of a health threat as visceral fat is.
The lower belly is one of those seriously frustrating body parts, and it’s not even an entire body part, it’s part of a body part – the lower bit of your tummy. This vexing semi-body part is the bane of anyone who’s lost weight, toned up, put in the hard work, done everything right, but just can’t seem to shift that lower belly bulge. Arrgh! That little belly bulge standing between you and a flat tummy. It is a tricky problem, but a fixable one. There are 3 causes of the lower belly bulge:
Experimental Biology held a study where they studied the effects of adding freeze-dried blueberry powder to the diets of lab rats chosen because their breed was prone to being overweight. After 90 days, the rats who consumed the extract had less fat in the abdominal region, lower cholesterol levels, lower triglycerides, and improved glucose levels. Blueberries are excellent at fighting lower belly fat because they are full of fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Additionally, with about 83% of their density coming from water, they’re also low in calories. Blueberries are the perfect topping for oatmeal, yogurt, or as a snack on their own. Just avoid things like blueberry pies and pastries. The closer to raw the blueberries are, the better.
Hence why dieting alone isn't enough. An idea supported by scientists from the Department of Clinical Chemistry at Bispebjerg Hospital in Denmark who found, "Lipolysis (fat loss) is accompanied by an increase in the fatty tissue blood flow." For this very reason relying on the old calories in/calories out method won't be enough if you want to banish your belly. Instead run, jog, bike or swim, but most importantly move and increase blood flow and fat loss.
After examining the fat lost around the trained muscle compared to the "resting muscle" they found lipolysis (fat loss) was generally higher in the fat adjacent to contracting muscle compared to the resting muscle. Again noting, "Blood flow and lipolysis (fat loss) was higher" in the trained leg they concluded, "Thus specific exercises can induce "spot lipolysis" in adipose tissue."
At one time, we might have accepted these changes as an inevitable fact of aging. But we've now been put on notice that as our waistlines grow, so do our health risks. Abdominal, or visceral, fat is of particular concern because it's a key player in a variety of health problems — much more so than subcutaneous fat, the kind you can grasp with your hand. Visceral fat, on the other hand, lies out of reach, deep within the abdominal cavity, where it pads the spaces between our abdominal organs.
Chrissy Barth, RDN, a registered dietitian, yoga coach, and CEO of a nutrition consulting practice in Phoenix, urges clients not to harp on their family history too much. "If people go around thinking, 'My mother is overweight and I'm destined to be overweight, too,' that's depressing! And if you stress over it, it can cause cortisol to spike, and that will cause you to gain weight."
I ordered this product after many phenomenal reviews about it, and its miraculous properties to aid in your weight loss efforts. After having it used for several weeks in a row and following a healthy diet and exercise plan, I have not seen any changes in my weight, or any benefits from this tea. Unfortunately this does not mean that it would not work for you, as every human physiology is quite different. The one positive about this tea that I can give is that it has a quite pleasing taste.
Not all belly bulges are best solved with a generic combination of diet and exercise. Depending on what specific type of belly bulge you’ve got, you might be experiencing better results when you’re getting more rest, or perhaps when you’re toning down your exercise regime and switching your high-intensity workouts for something that involves less exertion.

2. Post Pregnancy Belly: Granted, after a woman gives birth, there will be some excess fat. But recent research has suggested that the extra weight may not only be from pregnancy, but rather the result of poor lifestyle choices following the pregnancy. A study, which is published in the journal Women’s Health Issues, conducted a study to see if there was an association between excess belly weight and post pregnancy lifestyle choices. The study consisted of over 32,000 women with at least two births in Wisconsin between 2006 and 2013.
If you do Zumba or CrossFit or power yoga or are in the midst of training for a marathon or the Miss Olympia contest, by all means continue. But whether you’re a couch surfer or an actual surfer, you’ll jump-start your weight loss if you add in a 10- minute walk outdoors. This easy a.m. ritual works on two levels. First, a recent study found that exposure to UV rays, even on a cloudy day, between the hours of 8 am and noon reduces your risk of weight gain. Researchers speculate that the morning light synchronizes your metabolism and undercuts your fat genes. And burning calories before you eat means you’re exercising in a fasted state. According to some studies, exercising in a fasted state can burn almost 20 percent more fat compared to exercising with fuel in the tank.

The Ovary belly is a female-only problem and is accompanied by saddlebags and lower stomach fat. Very disturbing, these types of belly shapes are caused by an excess of oestrogens, and it’s favoured by hormonal changes that take place during menstruation and after giving birth. The Ovary belly comes with additional symptoms like thin hair, bloating, frequent acne outbreaks and headaches, heavy periods, facial hair and ovarian cysts.
